Curriculum for Life

Aims

Curriculum for Life equips all students with key skills and knowledge that will support them throughout their lives. Students will develop age appropriate understanding relating to three key areas: healthy relationships, health and wellbeing and living in the wider world. The curriculum has been developed in line with the  the citizenship national curriculum and the PSHE Association.

The curriculum will support the safeguarding of students. They will explore issues including sexual consent, domestic violence and abuse, and mental health to ensure they can safeguard themselves and protect their emotional wellbeing. This has been developed to an age appropriate manner. Alongside this, focus weeks have been embedded throughout the year to provide opportunities to reflect on contemporary issues that our students may face including county lines, radicalisation, and knife crime. We believe these topics and conversations should not end when students leave the classroom, and we highly recommend that they are discussed at home, therefore, each term your child will be sent home with their C4L work booklet. In the back pages of the work booklet, you’ll find a parent guide; this gives you an overview of key topics and provides you with questions/discussion points. We highly recommend using these to aid conversations about these topics at home.

The Curriculum for Life provision aims to:

  • Develop students’ confidence in sharing their own thoughts and opinions
  • Develop skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy and safe
  • Develop an attitude of a responsible and considerate global citizen
  • To build positive, respectful relationships with other people
  • To equip students with the skills to support them during life’s challenges

We are proud to be working with The Proud Trust this year, working towards the Rainbow Flag Award. This work will build on and improve our school’s already inclusive environment, for staff and students in the LGBT community.
